Government figures reveal a staggering 75% increase in heat pumps applications in February compared to last year.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, offering families grants of up to £7,500, has fueled this surge. Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho hails the spike as proof of the net-zero plan’s success.
The government released these figures ahead of the 2nd anniversary of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on April 1st, highlighting a significant uptick. In February, applications soared by 75% compared to 2023. This marks the fourth consecutive month with over 2,000 applications.
The monthly average for applications between November 2023 and February 2024 is now 45% higher than before the grant increase.
| Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency, notes the unprecedented demand for heat pumps. Over 35,000 heat pumps applications have been received, with £127 million distributed in vouchers. Changes to the scheme criteria, removing mandates for cavity wall or loft insulation, have further boosted applications. |
The Welcome Home to Energy Efficiency campaign has lent support to these efforts. A comprehensive guide for potential its owners aims to increase awareness and understanding. Industry stakeholders, including Charlotte Lee, CEO of the Heat Pumps Association, lauded the initiative’s impact.
| Greg Jackson, Founder of Octopus Energy, highlights the efficiency of heat pumps and their vital role in sustainable heating solutions. |
The surge in its applications signals a promising future for the widespread adoption of environmentally friendly heating systems.
