The UK government is taking big steps to make green heating technology, like heat pumps, cheaper for everyone. They’re working closely with businesses to make sure these eco-friendly heating systems don’t cost more to buy or run than regular gas boilers.
Starting next April, households can get government grants of £5,000 to help them install these low-carbon heating systems. This is part of a £450 million scheme to upgrade boilers and make homes more energy efficient.
The plan is to make low-carbon heating systems, like heat pumps, just as affordable as gas boilers. And by 2030, they could even be cheaper to buy and run! That’s good news for the environment and people’s wallets.
The government is also investing £60 million in an innovation fund to make clean heat systems smaller, easier to install, and cheaper to run. This will create thousands of new jobs and help protect the planet.
By 2035, the government wants all new heating systems in UK homes to be low-carbon. That means using technology like electric heat pumps or hydrogen-ready boilers.

The UK government is also looking into using hydrogen for home heating. Trials are underway to see if it’s safe, affordable, and good for the environment. And by 2026, they’ll decide if hydrogen should be part of the plan.
